I made a maquette of one idea I had which is based on a table made out of wood I saw in Thailand. The idea was to have three pieces like the maquette (1 of stone and 2 of wood) made into a sort of totem pole. I don't think this piece of stone lends itself to that though. It would be a bit of a waste.

Week 23
I picked a new piece of stone today to start a new project for the last two weeks of term. I was thnking of making this a combination of stone and wood so I cut two pieces of wood roughly the same length as the stone.

Week 21
You may not see much of a difference in the photos this week as I just did loads more sanding. A little bit of filing on the top surface of the plinth too.
I thought I had sanded enough so polished the whole sculpture. Then the tutor pointed out that I had not used fine enough sandpaper and I should have used Brasso on the stone before polishing.

Week 20
I have just been mainly sanding the sculpture today. Consequently the colour is starting to look much better now though.
At the end of the session Paul, the tutor helped me try an experimental repair on the side of the stone. We took some dust created from filing the stone, mixed it with super glue and spread it in the groove where I had accidentally cut in too far with one of my very early saw cuts. Next week I will sand it down a bit and see how it works out.
